Title:
Hyundai Tucson PHEV 2022 – Bluelink warning “tail light still on” with engine off (and 12V battery drained)

Post:
Hi everyone,

I have a Hyundai Tucson Plug-in Hybrid (model year 2022) with Bluelink, and I’m getting a warning that I can’t quite figure out.

The original message I see (in Spanish) is something like:

“Motor apagado, pero luz de la cola aun encendidas”

Which I’m pretty sure comes from the English text “Engine off, but tail light still on” / “Tail light still on”.

From what I understand, Bluelink is telling me that the engine is off but the rear lights are still on. I’m trying to understand whether this is:

Just a normal “courtesy” warning (for example, because:

the lights are in AUTO and I’m in a dark area/garage,

or the “follow me home” feature is keeping the lights on for a short time),

or

A sign that something is wrong (e.g.:

brake lights staying on when the car is off,

a faulty brake light switch at the pedal,

some wiring or control-module issue with the rear lights).

What I’ve observed so far:

Car: Hyundai Tucson PHEV 2022.

Lights are usually set to AUTO.

The app sends the notification: engine off but tail light still on.

The problem seems to happen when I charge the car at night:

I usually schedule the charging to start around 01:00 AM.

As soon as the car starts charging, the rear light turns on and stays on while it’s charging.

This Sunday I actually found the 12V battery completely discharged, and I strongly suspect it’s because that rear light stayed on for hours during the night while the car was charging.

I’m aware I shouldn’t leave the lights on for a long time because of the 12V battery, so this is becoming a real concern and not just an annoying notification.

I’d really appreciate hearing from other Tucson / Hyundai owners:

Have you seen this exact message (or the English version “tail light still on”) on your Bluelink app or dashboard?

Has anyone experienced rear or brake lights turning on when the car starts charging at night?

In your case, was it just normal behavior (AUTO lights / follow-me-home) or did it end up being a brake light switch, a charging-related bug, or another electrical issue?

Anything specific I should ask the Hyundai dealer to check (brake switch, BCM/body control module, wiring, charging logic, software updates, etc.) if this keeps happening?

Thanks in advance for any insight or similar experiences!
